Emotional wellness is an integral component of high-level health and is essential in our everyday lives. It encompasses our capacity to experience positive and negative emotions and express and process them effectively. When our emotional health is optimal, we can effectively navigate life’s obstacles while finding meaning through life’s experiences.

Emotional health should not be confused with mental health, although they can often be mistakenly associated. Mental health refers to issues related to the brain, such as psychological disorders or neurological conditions. Emotional wellness involves managing everyday stressors while dealing with daily emotions.

Many techniques exist for improving one’s emotional health, with sleep, exercise, and mindfulness among the most popular strategies. As part of this plan, connect with loved ones while making time for social activities and seek professional assistance to manage emotions.

As well as strengthening your emotions, you should also work on maintaining your spiritual health. According to studies, those who practice spirituality are typically happier and experience improved emotional well-being. Simply spending time outdoors, with family, or volunteering are ways of practicing spirituality.

One way to strengthen your emotional well-being is to develop strategies for resiliency. Resiliency refers to our ability to cope with difficult emotions and stressful situations; practicing mindfulness, gratitude, and self-compassion can strengthen this. Furthermore, learning how to effectively manage stress, avoid toxic relationships and avoid over-commitment are all ways of improving it further.

Social Health

Social health is an integral component of overall well-being, defined as an individual’s ability to adapt and thrive within society. Its success depends heavily on relationships, societal structures, and cultural norms – factors which are determined by how connected to their communities they feel; those more closely tied tend to experience less stress and depression, have higher self-esteem, and are more resilient against illness than their counterparts who feel isolated from society.

Social health has seen increasing recognition, reflecting a more comprehensive healthcare approach. Social health examines individuals and their environments as part of healthcare delivery and seeks to eliminate long-standing disparities between the health status of different groups. To accomplish this goal, addressing social determinants of health (SDOH) – non-medical factors that impact people’s health, such as living environments, economic policies/systems/development agendas/societal norms/broader structures that affect everyday life- is of utmost importance in reaching this goal.

Though there is no consensus regarding what constitutes social health, researchers have highlighted its significance by stressing the importance of mutual social support between friends and family members and belonging to an organized community (or what’s known today as ‘ social capital’). All these aspects are pivotal in an individual’s overall well-being and may even affect physical well-being.

Vietnamese health services have long been plagued by inadequate primary health services and high healthcare costs, leading to overutilization of hospital-level facilities, increasing household out-of-pocket expenditures, and the risk of catastrophic spending. This study investigated the relationship between visit frequency to high-level facilities and catastrophic spending and any moderating effect from health insurance status in rural and urban districts; results show frequent utilization increases the likelihood of experiencing catastrophic expenditure while favorable effects from health insurance can lessen this burden.

Mental Health

Mental health refers to an individual’s capacity to deal with everyday stresses and lead a productive and fulfilling life, including emotional well-being, flexible thinking ability, and participation in social activities. People with poor mental health have an increased risk of depression, substance abuse, and suicide, which may significantly impair family members’ and employees’ quality of life at work.

Improved mental health can reduce the burden of mental illness, commonly known as psychosomatic disease. Effective methods include self-help and support groups, non-specialist psychological counseling, psychoeducation and exercise programs, various types of group therapy from psychotherapists or psychiatrists (who may also perform these treatments), or primary care physicians utilizing specific group therapy methods. Medication may also be prescribed to alleviate symptoms but not cure an underlying disorder.

Multiple factors play a part in mental health, including genetics and environment. Some factors increase one’s risk for mental illness while others reduce it; people living with mental illnesses can lead productive lives but may require assistance to do so; the best treatment option depends on both type and severity – some conditions can be managed through medication and psychotherapy while other require medical intervention like surgery or anesthesia.

Many governments have pledged to integrate mental health services into their healthcare systems. The Global Mental Health Commission, led by Vice President Epsy Campbell Barr of Costa Rica and co-chaired by Mary Bartram from Canada, ensures all nations can access leadership, resources, tools, and technical assistance to tackle mental health issues more effectively. The commission comprises an interdisciplinary team of experts with lived experience as well as civil society organizations from around the world, focused on creating a global agenda at three high-level meetings (HLMs) of the UN General Assembly: one on pandemic preparedness and response: universal health coverage; and tuberculosis (TB).
